Departmental Overview

The Lammel lab in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at UC Berkeley is looking for a highly motivated individual to conduct research and manage a multidisciplinary team that pioneers advanced technologies to understand neural circuit alterations in psychiatric diseases. Specifically, we are looking for a self-motivated and independent individual who will take ownership of ensuring that the lab has everything that it needs to keep operations on time and successful. Responsibilities
  • Assist PI in formulating and implementing short and long-term goals for the operation of the laboratory: set priorities, assign responsibilities, establish timetables, coordinate new funding initiatives, recruit top talent, mentor, and coach lab members.
  • Assist lab members with experiments and advise on equipment and technical problems.
  • Establish relationships with vendors and purchase supplies needed in the lab.
  • Keep the main lab and animal colony rooms well organized, stocked, and clean.
  • Manage mouse husbandry to ensure efficient and cost-effective management of mouse colony.
  • Monitor all freezers/fridges and respond to alarms.
  • Maintain the inventory list for the lab and inventory rooms.
  • Write, review, and organize protocols and project research plans.

Required Qualifications
  • Applicants must possess at least a BS + 5 years or MS + 2 years in Life Sciences or a related field at the time of application (and/or equivalent experience/training).
  • Experience managing a life science-focused lab.
  • Advanced analytical, writing and communication skills in addition to logical reasoning capabilities.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to work independently.
  • The capability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent computer and record keeping skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to create and maintain excellent working relationships in a team environment.
  • Ability to lead by example and manage through influence.
  • Experience with Neuroscience techniques and approaches.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience managing multiple projects in a supervisory/managerial role for a minimum of two years.
  • Knowledge/experience or the ability to quickly learn UC systems (e.g., BearBuy).
  • Experience with the Quartzy ordering and lab management web platform.
  • Experience with manuscript preparationÍž excellent command of and skilled in written communication, editing, and proofreading.
  • Website development skills.
  • Experience with mouse colony management.

Salary & Benefits

$53,011.46 - $65,909.79 (stepped rates) depending on qualifications. This position provides full benefits.
